Howard Ham remembers:
Wow, what a joy it was to hear that piece! That’s the theme song from the old Standard School Broadcast series called I Am an American—A Musical Hall of Fame that I used to listen to when I was in grade school in Santa Barbara. My dad was able to obtain a couple of old LP records of that series from a local Santa Barbara radio station a long time ago. The two records had programs about George Washington Carver and Edward MacDowell, and he gave them both to me. I still have them. The MacDowell record is so worn out that it’s barely playable any more, but it has some absolutely beautiful music on it from my favorite composer (MacDowell).
