HMV 2350 H and 2351 H ribbon mics His Master’s Voice

A really beautiful microphone in exceptional, virtually mint condition, it appears to be unused. It is complete with protective cover, a letter from HMV to dealers dated 25th July 1949, and two advertising flyers as shown.
These are interesting, as they refer to models 2350 and 2351, which were the designations given to the 2300 if it was sold separately. Therefore, this was originally sold with EMI studio equipment, such as their 2300 H Disc Recorder, and probably not needed by the studio. The only difference between the 00 and 01 versions was the type of mounting, one being on a stand, the other with a hanging bracket.
This microphone was made for professional studio use, and even today sounds good. It is, of course, in working order. However, ribbon mics are delicate by the nature of their design and construction and it should be treated with care.
I doubt you will find one as good as this again. They were not mass-produced consumer items, and so were made in only limited quantities. Just look at the serial number in the photo: 281.
